Masking is the one of the best option in the Flash and today I will show you the magic of that by a
unique technique to make a zoom effect. I will use a magnify glass to show the zoom effect inside the glass, it will move on whole picture. Follow this tutorial and enjoy.
Final Result
Take a new document and put size which will be suitable for your project, I
have taken 400*400 but make sure the file size should be same as picture size.
Now import the picture to make a zoom effect on, in the scene go to file menu
> import to stage (Press Ctrl + R).
Take a rectangle tool and create a rectangle in a new layer but make sure
rectangle layer should be up of the image layer. I have reduced the opacity of
rectangle to show how the rectangle will be place on documents.
Import the magnify glass image (I had made it in Photoshop) and press
Ctrl + B
to break the image. Create a circle to cover the glass as showing image 2 and make
copy the selected circle area from the magnify glass picture to use in the
future as showing image 2.
Tips: Press Alt key to
make the four side exact circle.
Cut the above copied circle and paste it on rectangle layer (first image) and
put the circle like below image. Now change the color of circle( see second image
) and delete the circle (see the third image).

Now press F6 and move the rectangle layer on that part of the picture where
you want to apply zoom effect, for example F6 on 10 frame and move the rectangle
head to bird tail. Now again press F6 on 20 frame and move the rectangle first
bird tail to second bird tail and again press F6 on 30 frame and move the rectangle on head of second bird,
at last
press F6 on 40 frame and move the rectangle first bird head. After that
right click on all gray portion of the frames and select "Create
Motion" option then right click on rectangle layer and select "Mask".
Take one more layer above the rectangle layer and named "Big Picture
Bird" then import the same bird
picture again (Ctrl + R), take the free Transform Tool (Q key) and scale the picture
a little bit more as I have scaled the size 400*400 to 464*464.
Take another layer above the "Big Picture Bird" layer and paste the
circle on this layer and move it together rectangle layer circle, we have to put
circle on same places where our rectangle circle was moving.
Tips:- Hide the big bird
picture layer and for better placement you can remove the twining of rectangle
layer.
After placement of all circles right click gray portion of layer and select
"Motion Twinning" option then right click on the "Circle
Layer" and select mask.
Now the final step is place the magnify glass on the same way of the circles
layer and apply create motion twining as done above.
